Motorola confirms no Droid Turbo for Europe
Europe will not be getting the Motorola Droid Turbo, arguably the company’s highest specced phone.
Officially unveiled at the end of October, the Motorola Droid Turbo is the company’s latest high-end collaboration with US mobile network Verizon.
However, it’s known that the handset will be made available outside of the US – specifically Latin America – in the form of the Motorola Moto Maxx. This prompted hopes that the phone might eventually find its way to Europe (and, by extension, the UK).
As pointed out by Italian website TuttoAndroid, Motorola France has tweeted the news that no European Android fan wanted to hear.
When asked about the likely availability of the Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx, the company replied (via Google Translate), “This smartphone will unfortunately not [be] available in Europe!”
Why should you care? Think of the Droid Turbo as a supercharged Moto X 2014. It’s got a QHD 5.2-inch display in place of the original’s 1080p equivalent, a Snapdragon 805 CPU in place of the Moto X’s Snapdragon 801, a 21-megapixel camera in place of the underwhelming 13-megapixel original, and a mammoth 3,900mAh battery with a claimed two day life in between charges.
In short, it addresses most of the things that we felt held the Moto X 2014 back from greatness in our review.
Oh, apart from the design. The Droid Turbo is considerably uglier than the Moto X, for some reason.
Still, many European Android fans will justifiably suspect that one of the best Android phones of this generation is being denied them.
