Leaked Nintendo NX controller confirmed as fake

Two leaked images of the Nintendo NX controller were revealed to be an incredibly convincing hoax.

Last week, a series of convincing images depicting a Nintendo NX controller leaked online, sending the internet into immediate uproar.

The controller was near-identical to a patent registered by Nintendo back in 2015. Fortunately, the controller was one big trick.

The fake was created by Frank Sandqvist with the use of 3D laser-printing and some truly elaborate photoshopping.

“I’m sorry if I got people’s hopes up, but it seems most people were against this kind of design, so maybe it’s a relief to hear that it’s fake,” Sandqvist explained.

“I thought it would be funny to see how easy it would be to recreate that Photoshopped leak in real life–it turns out, it’s pretty easy.”

It was recently rumoured that Nintendo would cease production of the Wii U before the end of 2016, paving the way for NX.

Nintendo has since denied the rumours, claiming it plans to “continue production through the rest of the year.”
