iPhone 5C unveiled as Apple’s first cut-price smartphone

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 5C, with the company’s first cut-price smartphone to hit retailers later this month in an array of colours.
Having been the subject of endless rumours over the past couple of months, the iPhone 5C has now been officially unveiled as part of Apple’s California based iPhone launch event. The iPhone 5C will go head-to-head with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and HTC One Mini for mid-range smartphone supremacy.
“iPhone 5c is everything iPhone 5 was and more, in an all-new design packed with great features,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5c is designed with a beautiful polycarbonate enclosure that looks and feels so solid in your hand.”
iPhone 5C Features
Built on a similar foundation of specs to the iPhone 5, the new, colourful iPhone 5C features a 4-inch Retina display like the company’s past flagship handset and will come packing an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera and a secondary 1.9-megapixel camera up front. There’s a new Live Camera app and new filters too with the iPhone 5C, which also brings 3x video zoom with it.
With iPhone 5C colours seeing white, red, blue green and yellow handsets heading to market, Apple has confirmed that the brightly hued construction will be crafted from hard-coated polycarbonate and cover a “new construction method that uses a reinforced steel structure.”
Powered by the same A6 1.3GHz dual-core CPU as the iPhone 5, the iPhone 5C will run the new iOS 7 operating system while the usual array of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and 4G connectivity options are thrown into the mix. In fact, Apple states that the iPhone 5C offers more LTE connectivity than any other iPhone.
With the iPhone 5C being made available in both 16GB and 32GB storage capacities, Apple has suggested that the phones supports a 10 hour talk time battery life.
iPhone 5C Release Date and Price
Ensuring you do not have to wait long to get the phone in your mitts, the iPhone 5C release date has been confirmed as September 20 in the UK. Ahead of that, iPhone 5C pre-orders will kick off on September 13.
Although the company’s first cut-price smartphone is not particularly cheap, the iPhone 5C release date has been set at £469 for the 16GB option and £549 for the 32GB handset.
