Huawei Nexus leak renews hope for Google’s next smartphone

The Nexus 6 is quickly becoming a fading memory, and we’re already looking toward the next iteration of Google’s smartphone program.

Fortunately, rumour-spinners are now peddling details about the upcoming handset, as reported by GizmoChina.

The currently unnamed device is expected to be produced by Huawei, which is certainly a rumour we’ve heard before.

Huawei has never worked on a Nexus device before, so it’ll be interesting to see what the China-based manufacturer can muster up.

According to the latest report, the Huawei Nexus will use a Samsung-built 5.7-inch OLED display with a 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution.

That’s a hefty display resolution, so we hope Huawei is planning to load a beefy battery into the device to ensure charge cycles aren’t dreadful.

Huawei was previously tipped to use its own custom-built Kirin chip in the new Nexus, but this report claims it will actually feature Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 810.

The report suggests that Google pushed Huawei to use a Qualcomm chipset due to the fact that the Kirin series haven’t had time to prove themselves on flagship smartphones.

Unfortunately, neither Google nor Huawei have officially confirmed the next Nexus entry’s existence.

There’s mounting pressure on Google to get the next iteration right, however, as last year’s Nexus 6 received a surprisingly lukewarm critical reception.
