Huawei readying Mate 9 phablet for IFA launch

With all the iPhone 7 leaks that have appeared in recent weeks, you might be pleased to hear that the latest spy shots to emerge actually relate to a different phone.
Posted to China’s eternal font of grainy phone leaks, social media site Weibo, via PhoneArena, a couple of new images seem to reveal the metal casing for the upcoming Huawei Mate 9.
Just what the ‘FLOWDE’ logo means remains unclear, so take this one with a pinch of salt, but there’s no doubt the design certainly looks Huawei-esque.
Alongside the images came some claimed specs, with a 5.9-inch 1080p screen, Kirin 960 processor, and 4GB or 6GB RAM options touted as some of the phone’s hardware features.

The post also claims the Mate 9 will arrive with a 16-megapixel rear camera, which goes against previous leaks stating the phone is to feature a 12-megapixel setup.
Other leaks have even listed a 20-megapixel rear camera as a possibility, so we’re not sure what to make of this latest claim.
Still, with no word from the Chinese company on whether leaked specs are even close to accurate, we’re still none the wiser as to what Huawei’s plans are.

What we are hoping, however, is that the company does something to fix the abysmal software that has plagued its previous Mate phones, including the Mate 8.
Huawei’s most recent Mate effort was undoubtedly a nicely designed handset, but the inconsistent camera and awful software mean the company missed a real opportunity to make a mark in the UK and USA.
Will it manage to make up for it with the Mate 9? Hopefully, we haven’t got long until we find out.
