Huawei making Google Nexus phone for this autumn
A fresh report has lent weight to the suggestion that Huawei is making the next Nexus smartphone for Google.
It’s no secret that Huawei is being lined up to make a future Nexus device, but a new report has cast light on the relationship between the Chinese manufacturer and Google.
The Information has confirmed the previous rumour that Huawei would be making the next Nexus smartphone, and claims that it will be launched this autumn.
So far only five companies have won the right to make Nexus devices for Google since 2010: HTC, Samsung, Asus, LG, and Motorola. Huawei will be the first Chinese manufacturer to do so.
Indeed, the report points out that Huawei has become “one of Google’s strongest and most trusted partners in selling devices powered by Google’s Android software.”
This relationship will apparently go well beyond making the next Nexus phone. The two companies are said to be in talks over Huawei potentially helping to bring a mobile app store to China. Tough legislation has meant that Google hasn’t been able to offer its software in the country as it would have liked.
Google, for its part, will apparently help Huawei to market future devices in the West. It’s also claimed that the companies have discussed getting the Huawei Watch (which runs on Android Wear) to work with the iPhone.
