Hearthstone earns Blizzard $20 million each month

We already knew that Hearthstone was a big winner for Blizzard, but now we know how successful the digital card game really is.
The online games brings in around $20 million in revenue every single month, according to analyst firm SuperData Research (SDR).
“Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft managed to disrupt the category in the same way World of Warcraft transformed massively multiplayer online games,” explains SDR.
It continues: “Blizzard’s first digital card game has deep mechanics, but is is more accessible and streamlined than long-running games like Magic: The Gathering.”
And that success is, in part, thanks to the smartphone launch of Hearthstone, which boosted the game’s monthly revenue by 31%.

Blizzard first released Hearthstone on both Windows and OS X on March 11, 2014.
It landed on the iPad just one month later, and finally made it to smartphones in April this year.

As of early May 2015, there were more than 30 million registered Hearthstone accounts.
That massively eclipses the number of World of Warcraft accounts, which now sits at 5.6 million. Bear in mind that WoW is a subscription-only game, while Hearthstone is completely free, save for optional micro-transactions.
