Chrome on iOS just got a whole lot better

Google has updated its Chrome browser for iOS with a new faster and more stable version.

Previously, the web browser used a second-tier iOS web rendering engine called IOWebView, which was inferior to the one used by Apple’s own Safari browser.

The new version uses the WKWebView engine, allowing for faster browsing, particularly in relation to JavaScript.

It also mean that Chrome is now much more stable, with Google claiming a crash rate that’s 70% lower than the previous version.

And desktop users have been treated to a new Data Saver extension that allows users to manage data usage.

Google’s ‘compression technology’ reduces the amount of data a website uses to load, making it easier to use the internet when on unreliable Wi-Fi networks.

The new feature will also allow users to see how much data they have saved and which websites are using the most data.

Android users were given the Data Saver update in December.

iOS users should be able to update to the new version of Chrome today, and can visit the App Store to do so immediately.
