Google has announced that its Streetview app for iOS and Android is now compatible with its Cardboard virtual reality headset.
The update enables owners of the super-basic pair of goggles to take a tour down any street covered by Streetview.
In a post on the company blog (via VentureBeat), Google wrote: “Finally, to help bring you to more places, you can now explore Google Street View in Cardboard.
While the dedicated Cardboard app had offered some Streetview imagery, this is the first time Google has offered the whole hog.
Those rocking Cardboard headsets won’t have to wait for the update to roll out, because it was featured as part of Google’s last Streetview tweak, which dropped last week.

The Cardboard initiative has offered many curious tech fans a first opportunity to enter the VR era, without an expensive investment.
Google sells a number of inexpensive headsets through the cardboard website, but they can also be made at home thanks to the open source plans posted online.
Earlier this year, the company touted the fact there’s now over a million Cardboard headsets out in the wild. If you’re yet to take Google up on its bargain basement intro to VR then we’d suggest now might be the time.
Meanwhile, Google also announced Cardboard support has now reached 100 countries.
