The opening cinematic for Dark Souls 3 is dark, haunting and beautiful
Bandai Namco has released the full intro cinematic for Dark Souls 3, teasing new lore, locations and bosses from the upcoming game.
The newly released cinematic introduces us to the Kingdom of Lothric, which will act as the setting in Dark Souls 3.
Dark Souls 3 will place a heavy focus on the Lords of Cinder; ancient powerful beings who will likely act as the game’s bosses.
Some of these include Yhorm The Giant, Aldrich Saint of the Deep and Farron’s Undead Legion.
You will play as The Unkindled, who will rise up against The Lords of Cinder. You may choose to usher in a new age of dark or take your rightful place at The First Flame.

A lot of this probably sounds confusing, especially if you aren’t caught up with the Souls games.
If it did, don’t worry. The Souls games pride themselves on their ambiguous approach to storytelling, tempting fans to dig up every little detail they can.
The cinematic is gorgeous, accompanied by a sombre narration which introduces the Lords of Cinder before closing on the player as they kindle a nearby bonfire.
It is suitably cryptic, providing us with brief glimpses at a variety of environments and enemies.
The world of Lothric is beautiful one too. It seems to combine the gothic architecture of Bloodborne with the oppressive medieval-fantasy of Dark Souls.

Dark Souls 3 will play in a similar fashion to previous games, with the addition of new classes and equipment.
Last week saw the reveal of the thief class, which is taking a few tips from Bloodborne, a game also developed by From Software.
The thief class boasts improved agility and the ability to sidestep around enemies. This is perfect for when you need to execute a quick backstab.
Dark Souls 3 is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC on April 12.
