Sony outs Google Cast-ready soundbars and AV receivers

Sony is jumping aboard the Google Cast for Audio bandwagon with a host of AV receivers and soundbars compatible with the media streaming tech.

The Japanese tech giant will begin shipping the HT-NT3 and the HT-ST9 soundbars in July, while the TR-DN860 and STR-DN1060 receivers will arrive next month.

Owners of the new devices will be able to send audio content by hitting the Cast icon within compatible portals for iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome OS and Windows.

The HT-NT3 is $700 (about £600) and will offer Bluetooth support with 450W of power. Meanwhile, the higher-end $1,500 (around £1,300) HT-ST9 also supports Spotify Connect and pumps 800W of power with 7.1 channel surround sound.

The receivers offer a wide range of media streaming solutions with Cast, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Spotify Connect and Apple’s AirPlay all on board.

The STR-DN860 costs $500 (£400) and offers 7.2 channels and 150W of power. The $600 (£500) STR-DN1060 offers 4K resolution upscaling and 10 high-definition inputs.

The launch is another boost for Google’s Cast tech, which is quickly growing in prominence following the launch of the Chromecast dongle back in 2013.

Sony’s announcement (via Engadget) comes after LG announced a new line up of Music Flow speakers packing Google Cast for Audio.

Sony is also launching two further soundbars, the  HT-CT780 and HT-CT380, neither of which boast Cast tech.
