Samsung Galaxy S6

Samsung maintains a clear distinction between its flagship smartphone and phablet lines, but that could all be about to change.

According to new reports (via SamMobile), the Korean manufacturer has trademarked the term ‘Galaxy S6 Note’, suggesting the company’s two leading handset lines could be about to collide.

With the Samsung Galaxy S6 having been unveiled back in March as the company’s latest flagship phone, the newly surfaced trademark filing has hinted that the eagerly awaited Galaxy Note 5 could land under a very different guise.

Other than a name, however, the trademark filing has offered up no further details on the potential nature of the device.

Given the established branding of the company’s two distinct product lines, it is possible that the trademark, filed in Samsung’s native Korea, could be little more than a global company protecting itself and its core brand identities from misuse.

Due to the tentative nature of the new handset claims, we would suggest taking reports of an S6 Note release with a sizeable pinch of salt for now.

What remains more likely is that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 5 in September as expected.

The stylus-packing smartphone has been tipped to enter the realms of reality during IFA 2015, with suggestions the device will feature a 4K display alongside significant camera improvements and Google’s upcoming Android M OS.
