The Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is on the horizon, with latest reports out of the company’s native Korea suggesting that the early awaited handset will be unveiled during MWC 2014.
With a number of recent Samsung Galaxy S5 release date rumours having pointed to the Samsung Galaxy S4 follow-on making its first formal appearance during Q1 2014, latest reports have now suggested the handset will be unveiled at the Barcelona-based show with a QHD display in tow.
Claimed insider sources have reportedly informed Korean outlet ZDNet that Samsung will introduce its first smartphone with a 2560 x 1440 QHD display at MWC 2014. Although not referencing the Samsung Galaxy S5 by name, it is widely expected that the company’s flagship phone will be the first to sport the new technology.
While early Samsung Galaxy handsets, including the Samsung Galaxy S2 were showcased at Mobile World Congress in past years, more recently the Samsung Galaxy S3 and current Samsung Galaxy S4 handsets have been held at dedicated events after the annual convention.
The latest in a long line of Samsung Galaxy S5 rumours suggesting the upcoming iPhone 5S rival will boast an improved screen resolution, Samsung itself has suggested it will make a jump to 2K resolution smartphone displays during 2014, before adding 4K options the following year.
Although it is reported that Samsung is looking to accelerate the introduction of its flexible screen technologies, it is not believed that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will benefit from a flexible display, with the feature still short of mass production levels.
MWC 2014 will be held in Barcelona between February 24 and February 27.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has been the subject of much rumour and speculation in recent months, with the mooted handset widely tipped to run an all new metal form factor alongside a potential eight-core processor, 16-megapixel rear-mounted camera and Google’s latest Android 4.4. KitKat OS.
