Despite the Samsung Galaxy S5 being just days from launch, latest reports have suggested a Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update is being readied for release.

One of ten Samsung handsets reportedly set to be on the receiving end of an Android 4.4 KitKat update, the Samsung Galaxy S3 could join the more recent Samsung Galaxy S4 in running Google’s latest mobile OS, according to a leaked Samsung update roadmap.

Despite having been tipped to be in the works, no timeframe has yet been given for when the Samsung Galaxy S3 update will be introduced.

Surfaced through Android blog, Phandriod, the leaked Samsung update roadmap has suggested the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be joined by the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom in joining the KitKat-themed movement.

Citing “a source close to the matter,” the newly surfaced reports have claimed the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and Samsung Galaxy Mega will also be updated.

Not limited solely to smartphones, it has been claimed the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 and Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablets will also be on the receiving end of Google’s latest OS.

With the Android 4.4 KitKat update having only recently started a rollout to owners of the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 handsets, we anticipate quite a wait before the likes of the S3 are updated.

This is deja-vu for owners of Samsung GS3's. Wasn't a year ago Samsung annouce 4.3 update for GS3 phone?? Then nothing during the year until uproar of upset GS3 users force a release to GS3 units.

No you didn't get my point. It was this time last year that Samsung release the GS4, with 4.3, During that release it was mention that sometime in March 2013 that 4.3 would be available for the GS3 . That didn't happen. The deja-vu part is that it was Feb last year they made this announcement for 4.3 for GS3, Again now in Feb 2014 they announce 4.4 for GS3 phones, but this time Samsung didn't mention a specific release date for the roll out. It wasn't until the rumbling of upset GS3 users that the roll out started in July 2013. My phone didn't get the updated until Dec 2013.

Anthony Lenzo: I couldn't agree more. The only thing I would add is this. And how many people had to return their phones due to bugs and/or revert to 4.2 until they got it right?
