Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch pictures have hit the web ahead of the device’s expected IFA 2013 unveiling, showing off the techy timepiece in all its real-world glory.
With recent Samsung Galaxy Gear rumours pointing to the Apple iWatch rival making its first formal appearance this Wednesday, September 4, newly leaked images have claimed to show off a prototype of the upcoming smartwatch before its official unveiling.
Far from the svelte, adaptation of a traditional watch, the Samsung Galaxy Gear looks set to be a bit of a chunker with the 3-inch OLED touchscreen display shown to dwarf users’ wrists in the leaked promotional shots.
Featuring similar styling points to the company’s smartphone line, the Samsung Galaxy Gear can be seen with a rounded edged, black plastic form factor similar to that of a scaled down Samsung Galaxy S4.
Tipsters have suggested that “although its screen is square, large bezels on the top and bottom give it a chunky, rectangular shape, with rounded corners.”
What’s more, according to the latest leaks, the Samsung smartwatch will support a number of uses, with the advanced wrist wear acting as the usual activity tracker, as well as offering wireless Bluetooth connectivity to a number of smartphone functions.
As well as letting users get instant call log and messaging alerts direct to their wrists, it has been suggested that the Galaxy Gear’s sizeable wrist strap will play host to an integrated camera and speakers.
Hitting the web courtesy of VentureBeat, the Galaxy Gear leaks have claimed that the device, which is expected to be unveiled alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, will support a 10 hour battery life and Samsung S Voice capabilities for speak based commands.
Running Google’s Android OS, the Korean manufacturer’s first foray into the smartwatch sector will reportedly be further bolstered by integrated Wi-Fi allowing for apps to be downloaded direct to the timepiece.
