PS4 multiplayer free to all this weekend

Sony is offering free PS4 multiplayer to all gamers this weekend, rather than locking it behind a PlayStation Plus membership.

As part of the PlayStation Plus multiplayer open weekend, anyone with a PS4 can participate in online multiplayer without spending a penny.

Usually you need a PlayStation Plus subscription in order to access the online multiplayer components of your PS4 games. But this weekend, you can get it all for free.

From 6am GMT Friday February 13 until the weekend is up, online play will be free for all, giving you a Valentine’s Day present of playing your favourite games with your pals.

Grab your copy of Destiny, football sim FIFA 15, sign up for GTA Online via GTA 5, earn your stripes in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare or take over enemy strongholds via the bear pits of Far Cry 4

The free open multiplayer weekend will finish at 6am GMT Monday February 16.

PlayStation Plus costs £5.49 a month, £11.99 per quarter or £39.99 for a year’s subscription.

Along with access to online multiplayer, PlayStation Plus provides subscribers with two free monthly games for each of the Sony consoles – PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.

This month you’ve got Apotheon and Transistor for PS4, Thief and Yakuza 4 for PS3 and Rogue Legacy and Kick and Fennick for PS Vita.

You also get exclusive PlayStation Store discounts with a PlayStation Plus subscription.

A key feature of your PlayStation Plus subscription is access to 1GB of cloud storage, which you can use to store your game saves.
