The Nokia Lumia 1520 has been official unveiled, with the Finnish manufacturer’s first phablet device making ats first formal appearance following months of rumours and leaks.

The first phablet sized Windows Phone 8 handset, the Nokia Lumia 1520 has been unveiled as part of a Nokia World onslaught, with the 6-inch smartphone set to rival the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, HTC One Max and Sony Xperia Z1.

As well as lining up as the first Windows Phone phablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520 specs sheet sees the phone become the first Windows Phone 8 powered device to run both a 1080p Full HD display and a quad-core CPU.

“Today I would like to share with you how our Lumia portfolio continues to grow, not just in number, but actually in size,” Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said in unveiling the 6-inch phone. He added: “We have boosted the screen to a full 6-inches. Colours are rich and true. The Lumia 1520 offers a brilliant imaging experience.”

Nokia Lumia 1520 Features

Announced in Abu Dhabi alongside a the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520’s specs sheet is headlined by a 6-inch 1080p Full HD screen. With a screen designed to improve visibility in bright, direct sunlight, the Nokia Lumia 1520 is touted as a device for all occasions and environments.

The first true Windows Phone powerhouse, the Nokia Lumia 1520 features list is further enhanced by a speedy quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor..

While the Nokia Lumia 1520 camera might fall short of the company’s 41-megapixel Nokia Lumia 1020, the phablet’s 20-megapixel PureView snapper is a far from shabby inclusion. This camera is paired with the usual LED flash and further enhanced by the newly unveiled Nokia Camera and Nokia Storyteller apps which will help users take better images and then enjoy them in a more natural way.

Ensuring that video quality is as strong as the 1520’s stills camera, the handset has been fitted with four integrated microphones to allow for directional stereo audio.

With a gloss polycarbonate finish, the Nokia Lumia 1520 is set to be made available in red, yellow, white and black colour schemes. The phone features 32GB of internal storage, expandable to 64GB via microSD card.
