Nokia 2 Revealed: Meet the £99 Android phone with two-day battery life

HMD Global has announced its latest budget phone in the form of the Nokia 2. Here’s what you really need to know about the new device, including its UK price, release date and key specs.

Set to be released in mid-November, the Nokia 2 is priced at €99 (expect a like-for-like £99 UK price tag or thereabouts) and – in true Nokia style – is headlined by its 4100mAh battery spec.

HMD says this means the device enjoys two-day battery life based on internal “real-life” testing, though we’ll reserve judgement until we review the Nokia 2 in full.

As you’d expect with a sub-£100 phone, the Nokia 2 doesn’t boast any eye-catching specs beyond its claimed stamina, coming with an unspecified Snapdragon SoC – we reckon the entry-level Snapdragon 212 at this price point – that’s supported by 1GB of RAM.

Launching the product, HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas said in a statement:

“With the Nokia 2, we wanted to replicate the unique Android experience we’ve delivered so far with the long-lasting battery which so many fans associate and expect from their Nokia phones. To make this a reality, every component of the Nokia 2- from the display to battery, chipset to system – has been engineered to draw as little power as possible from the huge battery to give fans a long-lasting phone they can rely on.”

Elsewhere, the Nokia 2 features an 8-megapixel primary camera, 5-megapixel front snapper, and 8GB of on-board storage (expandable by up to 128GB via microSD card).

The new Nokia device will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat, with HMD saying an upgrade to the more recent Android 8.0 Oreo is in the pipeline.

In terms of colour options, the Nokia 2 will be available in three flavours: Pewter/Black, Pewter/White and Copper/Black.
