Nintendo NX to feature Xbox One-like specs, big reveal coming soon – report

Industry insider Emily Rogers believes we are due to hear more about the Nintendo NX very soon – and hints that the next-gen console will feature an Nvidia rather than an AMD chipset.

The “dedicated gaming platform” will apparently not be built on the same x86 architecture used to power the PS4 and Xbox One, which is quite surprising.

Rogers suggests that major sites will begin publishing reports on Nintendo’s console in the coming weeks and months, hinting that we will hear more about it before 2016 comes to a close.

“Today, I am feeling super confident in my past report on NX hardware,” Rogers said. “I won’t post any new rumors on NX. But I stand 100 percent by my opinion that AMD is not behind NX’s GPU.”

“It’s not an x86 system. You will see some more NX reports coming out from other sites soon. Major sites. Not Nintendo fan sites. Also, I don’t know what the price of this thing will be. It sounds expensive, but I hope it’s not.”

Rogers continues by saying the NX will be similar to the Xbox One in terms of other specs, meaning it should be capable of supporting third-party releases.

“When I say NX sounds expensive, I mean the gimmick sounds expensive. I stand by my report that this thing is closer to Xbox One specs. And by gimmick, I’m talking more about NX’s form factor. So anyways, keep an eye out for reports coming this week, and the following weeks.”

Ubisoft has recently said the NX is “really great” and could potentially attract a large audience of casual gamers.

The console, which is rumoured to be a console/handheld hybrid, is set to launch in March next year, and, according to Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima, will arrive with a host of software titles.

Kimishima has previously stated: “One of the reasons for choosing the launch timing that we did is so that the software line-up will be ready in time for the hardware launch.

“Not only at launch, but we also need to be able to continuously release titles after launch. We are planning for this to be a platform that consumers can enjoy for a long time.”

Other reports suggest a slew of Wii U remakes will also be appearing on the NX, including Zelda Wii U, Smash Bros 4, and Super Mario Maker.

On top of that, Nintendo is expected to debut a new membership service that encompasses smart devices to replace the recently axed Nintendo Club service.
