Nintendo NX to feature Xbox One-like specs, big reveal coming soon – report

Industry insider Emily Rogers believes we are due to hear more about the Nintendo NX very soon – and hints that the next-gen console will feature an Nvidia rather than an AMD chipset.

The “dedicated gaming platform” will apparently not be built on the same x86 architecture used to power the PS4 and Xbox One, which is quite surprising.

Rogers suggests that major sites will begin publishing reports on Nintendo’s console in the coming weeks and months, hinting that we will hear more about it before 2016 comes to a close.

"Today, I am feeling super confident in my past report on NX hardware,” Rogers said. “I won’t post any new rumors on NX. But I stand 100 percent by my opinion that AMD is not behind NX’s GPU."

"It’s not an x86 system. You will see some more NX reports coming out from other sites soon. Major sites. Not Nintendo fan sites. Also, I don’t know what the price of this thing will be. It sounds expensive, but I hope it’s not.”

Rogers continues by saying the NX will be similar to the Xbox One in terms of other specs, meaning it should be capable of supporting third-party releases.

“When I say NX sounds expensive, I mean the gimmick sounds expensive. I stand by my report that this thing is closer to Xbox One specs. And by gimmick, I’m talking more about NX’s form factor. So anyways, keep an eye out for reports coming this week, and the following weeks.”

Ubisoft has recently said the NX is “really great” and could potentially attract a large audience of casual gamers.

The console, which is rumoured to be a console/handheld hybrid, is set to launch in March next year, and, according to Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima, will arrive with a host of software titles.

Kimishima has previously stated: "One of the reasons for choosing the launch timing that we did is so that the software line-up will be ready in time for the hardware launch.

"Not only at launch, but we also need to be able to continuously release titles after launch. We are planning for this to be a platform that consumers can enjoy for a long time."

Other reports suggest a slew of Wii U remakes will also be appearing on the NX, including Zelda Wii U, Smash Bros 4, and Super Mario Maker.

On top of that, Nintendo is expected to debut a new membership service that encompasses smart devices to replace the recently axed Nintendo Club service.

So a BLOGGER says that something will happen and that's news? This woman isn't connected to Nintendo at all. How is someone's pure speculation anything worth reporting on? Do you just ask your neighbor with the bum knee what the weather will be like next week?

This is clickbait trash.

There is no way nintendo would release a console as powerful as the xb1,it struggles to reach 1080p.I reckon it'll poop on the xb1.

*IF* Nintendo are going into VR with the NX then an Xbox ONE like spec would not be powerful enough. It's the main reason both Sony and Microsoft are having to update their consoles. To be able to offer a good VR experience.

So.. We could guess that if the NX is aiming at a VR future then the specs would be higher than that of an Xbox ONE. If the "Xbox ONE like specs" thing is true then i wouldn't be expecting a whole load of VR functionality built in. Maybe on a basic level. But not comparable to rift, vive etc.

How can it feature "closer to XBox Specs" yet not be based on the x86 architecture?
Very confusing rumour right there! Just proves they know nothing.

If it's not built on an x86 platform, it will be shunned by third parties just like the Wii U was, and for that exact same reason. NX is DOA if this is true. You can not release a computer with proprietary hardware, necessitating proprietary software that is expensive and time consuming to train for, in an age of industry wide standardiation.

You clearly know nothing about specs. Different architectures doesn't necessarily mean different performance capabilities. It just means developing for it will be different form other architectures.

Thanks for increasing my knowledge then!

If the newer rumours are to be believed, that the NX will run on nVidia's Tegra X1 chip, do you think that it will have similar performance to the XBox One like this article claimed?

It will be somewhere in between a Wii U and an xbox one but slightly closer to a Wii U. Xbox 1 is around 1.3Tflops and Wii U is around 300. X1 being used in gaming applications would probably do around 512 gflops (not the full tflop that it is capable of). But I doubt they will use a stock X1 so it could be anyone's guess right now.

NX is gonna use Tegra X2 from Nvidia, Nintendo Consoles died to me ages ago. I can't wait for PS4.5 this October.

They're gonna be using Nvidia Tegra X2 it has Pascal Architecture, Similar power to Xbox One, But they're ARM Chips which means no B/C. I just can't wait to get a 4K TV and PS4.5 this October.

For sure they're using Nvidia Tegra X2 its as powerful as Xbox One, also that's y it's launching in March so it can have the Tegra X2 Chip.

Ur an idiot Emily Rogers was spot on with everything. A Tegra processor uses Arm Chips, hint not an X86. NX will have Tegra X2 its as powerful as Xbox One.

They are most likely going to use a custom chip but there was a brazilian website where someone posted all the same information Eurogamer posted except that the NX will be getting a custom chip based on the X2 and this was posted in March. So yeah, that sounds extremely plausible.

Everything the Blogger said was true, No X86 Chip and they're using ARM Chips, Tegra X2 is as powerful as Xbox One. Do some research on the web sometime, Ull be surprised by the results.

Show me one source of this that isn't a rumor. I'll hold my breath.
