New Kindle Fire press image leaks

A new and official-looking image of an as-yet unreleased Kindle Fire device has leaked onto the internet.

The leaked image appears to be an official press shot of the front of a new Kindle Fire device, which contrasts nicely with last week’s decidedly unofficial-looking snaps of the back of a new Kindle Fire tablet.

It adds weight to the suggestion that Amazon is set to refresh its entire Kindle Fire range in the near future. This particular shot, which was revealed by @evleaks, shows “another upcoming Kindle.”

Look closer and you’ll see that this particular Kindle Fire device comes without a front-facing camera. This suggests that it could be a new budget model, which would likely come without the HD display that Amazon is reportedly preparing for its new top-of-the-range model.

Last month it emerged that an Amazon device running Android 4.2.2 had appeared in a benchmark test. The device featured a 2560 x 1600 resolution display, which would pitch it at the same level of sharpness as the Google Nexus 10 and would point to an updated 8.9-inch model.

It’s also been suggested that the new Kindle Fire HD could feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, which seems to be the processor of choice for new Android-based devices.

The initial Kindle Fire HD series was announced on September 6 last year, so it could be said that new models are somewhat overdue.
