Microsoft Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 just got serious power upgrades

The Surface Book has clearly seen some success as Microsoft doubles down on the line-up.

Microsoft has launched more powerful versions of the new Surface Book, as well as the Surface Pro 4.

Both devices are now available for purchase as models that feature a 6th-gen Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a sizeable 1TB of storage.

The new Surface Book will only be available online, through Microsoft Stores and other select retailers.

Meanwhile, the Surface Pro 4 will be shipping in physical retailers as well as Microsoft Stores.

Microsoft also launched its new gold Surface Pen in the following countries: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United States.

The new Surface Pen doesn’t offer any improvements over the existing model – it’s just a cosmetic variant.

As such, it still offers the 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity that Microsoft claims provides “the ultimate writing and drawing experience”.

The new devices retail at $3,199 (Surface Book), and $2,699 (Surface Pro 4).

"Microsoft doubles down on the line-up."
Could some kind person please translate that into English.

Both of these models already existed! Are you talking about just the UK? Because both of these definitely existed already. The 1TB Surface Pro 4 was added right after the product as announced I think but these have definitely been options for a while.

I think the first part is a poker derived term, meaning to double the bet. Not sure though.

I'm pretty sure the article is referring to the UK variants. I was doing a lot of research on the SP4 over the weekend and saw reference to a 1Tb US only model. I may be mistaken in this, but I think only the more powerful version has the face unlock facility.

I'm undecided on the SP. Not sure if it offers any advantage over a laptop for my use case.

I'm 99% certain every model of the Surface Pro 4 offers Windows Hello capability through facial recognition.

the pen input is still quite inaccurate, wiggles on diagonal lines. It's a bit better than the last round of n-trig systems but still a long way off the Wacom Companion I tried the other day. So anyone who would use these slightly seriously for drawing should be aware of that. Still would love a surface pro 4 though-!
