LG G6 design scrapped due to cost issues, apparently

LG appears to have decided not to outfit next year’s LG G6 with a curved screen after all.

A new report claims that LG has scrapped plans for the rumoured LG G6 to feature a curved OLED display. South Korean news outlet ChosunBiz reports that the company has struggled with supply issues for curved panels, which meant that including the feature was no longer feasible.

The report also claims that the full-metal body and glass cover that were previously rumoured have also been scrapped due to cost issues. Apparently, these significant supply chain problems have meant that LG is now having to completely redesign the phone, just months before the expected launch.

LG is now reportedly planning to include a more traditional flat-screen LCD screen on the LG G6, just like previous LG flagships. The irony is that the supplier said to be struggling to meet demand is LG’s own subsidiary: LG Display.

The display-making division spends most of its time building huge OLED panels for televisions, but also produces smaller screens for smartwatches – such as the Apple Watch. But LG has yet to transition to producing its own OLED screens for smartphones, with the majority of that market held by Samsung’s display division.

It was expected that Samsung would include a curved display on the LG G6 in a bid to take on Samsung, which is now outfitting many of its handsets with curved screens, most recently with the Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy Note 7.

The LG G6 is expected to debut in the first half of 2017, but no official plans have been revealed to the public yet.

Looking at this on my g5,
I actually like the lg g5 a lot, but I think lg could have done a little better with the friends, and also the lower removable chin section could have had a bit more polishing in the way it locks into place and aligns with the main body.

I would have liked for lg to throw in the dac, it should have came with the device even with a price increase I think people would have been happy to pay it and have the dac to use straight away .
The rest of the device I have come to love , it runs well, it's nippy, I have a spare battery should I need it, I have to say though I would not have been offended if the device was a little thicker (maybe with a curved back and lose the camera bump ) and the battery a tad bigger.
The dual cameras rock.
Edit : one other thing need be addressed, the always on display is to dam dim in daylight.

Grateful that they're not going with the curved screen. My Note 7 had it and I hated it. It was always a touchy problem. Samsung tried to fix it by reducing the sensitivity but that just made things worse. Glad I moved to the G5 it's a great phone compared to the Galaxy line. Never going back to Samsung.
