iPhone 7 leak: Vodafone crushes dodgy rumour about Apple’s next phone

If you had any doubts about the name of Apple’s next smartphone, cast them aside: it’s the iPhone 7, folks.

Mobile network Vodafone has seemingly leaked the official name of the upcoming Apple handset, confirming the phone’s moniker as ‘Apple iPhone 7’. The network provider’s Dutch website was spotted featuring a placeholder image for the handset yesterday, as revealed by Dutch blog Techtastic. The image has since been removed, naturally.

This news comes in contrast to previous rumours that suggested Apple would reserve the iPhone 7 branding for next year’s iPhone. Apple reportedly plans to make sweeping changes to the iPhone line-up for the 2017 edition, which will be a major 10th anniversary launch. With this year’s upgrades expected to be minimal, many speculated that we would instead see an iPhone 6SE for 2016.

Just last night, Apple confirmed that it will be holding its annual launch event in San Francisco on September 7. It’s widely expected that this event will see Apple unveil the iPhone 7, and perhaps even usher in the long-awaited Apple Watch 2.

Some of the changes rumoured for the iPhone 7 include the removal of the headphone jack, less prominent antenna banding, a dual-lens camera, and a new ‘Space Black’ colour option. Unfortunately, until the official launch event, we can’t say anything for certain about Apple’s next flagship handset – stay tuned.
