Apple is preparing an iMessage Android app for WWDC next week, according to a new report.
When Apple Music turned up on Android late last year, it all felt a bit weird – but in a good way.
As Tim Cook told employees in February, though, that was merely Apple dipping its toes in the Android waters. Sure enough, reports suggest that Apple is planning another raid on the Google Play Store.
MacDailyNews claims that Apple will announced iMessage for Android at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 13. This will mean that iOS and Android users can engage in secure end-to-end encrypted messaging.
It will also mean an end to the blue message/green message platform distinction that has come to symbolise whether your buddy has an iPhone or an Android phone.
Bringing iMessage to Android could have wider significance for Apple. It’s rumoured that the company will be adding person-to-person Apple Pay payments through its Messages app. Extending this provision to the world’s biggest smartphone OS would seem like a sound business decision.

The source claims that even if the timing of iMessage on Android’s arrival isn’t set in stone, it will definitely arrive this year.
It’s worth noting that this is a ‘single source rumour,’ so is being treated as a rumour by the host website.
