IK Multimedia has unveiled the sequel to the immensely popular iRig guitar interface adapter, launching the aptly named iRig HD.

A high-quality digital electric guitar or bass connector, the iRig HD allows users to plug their instrument directly into any iOS device such as the iPad mini or iPhone 5. What's more, Mac computers are also supported by the music enabling peripheral.

Combined with their AmpliTube range of amp and effect apps and software, or any other real-time processing software such as GarageBand, users can play with their favourite effects, record their performances or compose wherever the mood takes them.

iRig HD Specs
With a simple plug in and play interface, the iRig HD features a quarter inch Hi-Z instrument jack, and includes detachable cables for Lightning, 30-pin and USB connections.

Featuring a high-quality 24bit convertor, a low-noise, high-definition preamp gain control within an ultra-compact and lightweight casing, the iRig HD boasts a clear digital signal and a range of level settings for high fidelity sounds whilst retaining its original portability.

Although it is powered by the iOS device or USB connection, the iRig HD has a low power consumption circuit so it won’t zap your already power loving iPod touch or iPad 4 of all its battery.

Ensuring users can get their jam on right from the off, the new iRig HD also comes with the AmpliTube App, downloadable free from the App Store, which provides an expandable guitar rig, complete with effects pedals, amplifiers, speaker cabinets and single track recorder. Those looking for a more wide ranging collection of effects and options can also make use of a selection of in-app purchases, upgrading their digital rig with a full range of AmpliTube Apps, including Fender, Jimi Hendrix and Slash versions.

iRig HD Release Date and Price
As of yet, IK Multimedia has yet to offer a firm iRig HD release date, instead stating that the iRig HD is due sometime in the spring. Furthermore, the iRig HD price has also yet to be announced, with the iOS loving accessory to be made available through a selection of music instrument shops and electronic retailers worldwide.
