An Android 4.4.4 update is starting to roll-out for the HTC One M8, and it brings the Eye Experience software announced earlier this week.

The HTC One M8 Android 4.4.4 update has already started rolling-out across Europe, although we’re still waiting for it to hit the UK at the time of writing.

It will arrive on ‘unlocked’ HTC One M8 devices first – those with carrier-branded versions will likely have a bit longer to wait.

The main feature this update brings is the Eye Experience software HTC unveiled earlier this week as part of its HTC Desire Eye announcement.

It’s all about improving the selfie experience offered by the front camera, rather than the ‘main’ rear camera – perhaps we won’t be calling it the ‘main’ camera for much longer.

Eye Experience adds face-tracking to the selfie cam, and lets you automatically take a selfie when up to four faces have been sat still – and the phone set still – for two seconds.

You also get voice control for selfies, something popular in LG phones, and can take both photos and video with the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

For an extra injection of gimmicky fun, Eye Experience also lets you merge the features of people into one face. It sounds like fun – creepy fun, to be specific.

This update should bring the HTC One M8 software roughly in-line with what we’ll see in the HTC Desire Eye, which is due for release in November on the Three network, exclusively.

While certainly not a replacement for the HTC One M8, the Desire Eye will reportedly sell at around the same price. It offers a 5.2-inch 1080p screen and 13-megapixel cameras on both the front and back – no sign of the UltraPixel tech used in the HTC One M8.

Let us know in the comments if the Android 4.4.4 update arrives on your HTC One M8.
