HTC One A9 leaks as iPhone 6S doppelganger

HTC One A9

Rumours about HTC’s next smartphone have been ongoing, with the latest showing pics of handset that bears a striking resemblance to Apple's iPhone 6S.

A series of images have been leaked, purporting to show a HTC One A9 (also known as "Aero") dummy unit.

The renders were posted to Twitter by prolific – and often reliable – leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, a.k.a Onleaks:

What is immediately obvious about this new phone is that it looks very similar to Apple’s iPhone 6S.

Similarities between the devices include the plastic antenna lines, the protruding circular camera, and the curved metal unibody design.

The speaker grille on the bottom of the device also appears to be a throwback to Apple’s handset.

What else is noteworthy about the new handset? Well, the front-facing BoomSound speakers have been dropped, and HTC appears to have added a front-facing fingerprint sensor built into a home button.

HTC’s new smartphone, which was confirmed by the company’s CEO earlier this year, passed through certification at the USA’s FCC earlier this week.

The device is expected to land with a 5in Full HD display, a Snapdragon 817 octa-core chip, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 13-megapixel camera.

HTC is expected to unveil the device later in October.

Do you think the HTC One A9 will be the hero smartphone that the company needs? Let us know in the comments.

HTC One models all have the same look. Why do you suppose HTC would not just have referenced their own house style? Surely more obvious than imitating an imitation?

If this is priced in the $300 range then this will absolutely be a worthy competitor to the iPhone as it's specs are on par with the iPhone and it may trick iPhone lovers into having the 'Android iPhone' and it will prove to the market that the iPhone is actually a midrange device which shouldn't have a $700 price tag.

Why on EARTH would you get rid of the front facing boomsound speakers? That was alwats the BEST feature of the smartphone, htc has now lost it's identity! They changed the game with the m7 and now they are copying the iphone? Fuck i really hope this phone isn't a flagship of any sort and i really hope next year's flagship keeps the best features of the previous phones

I'm glad there is another 5" screen to choose from!

My idea of the sweet spot. Also a 'round' number.
