HTC to launch new ‘hero’ handset in October

The HTC One M9 failed to build on the success of its predecessor and now, amid ailing sales, the Taiwanese manufacturer has confirmed it will launch a new ‘hero’ handset this October.
According to the Taipei Times, HTC CEO Cher Wang made the revelation during the company’s annual general meeting today, June 4.
Despite failing to offer up intimate details on the device, Wang’s description of the device as a ‘hero’ product has sparked speculation of a high-end iPhone 6S rival being on the cards.
With HTC revealing it is continuing to work on its “product mix” – the balance between high-end and more affordable devices –
Instead, Wang is reported to have revealed that next year’s flagship offering – the mooted HTC One M10 – will benefit from an array of innovative new features and a completely reworked design.

Despite playing host to a stunning brushed metal design and improved 20-megapixel primary camera, the HTC One M9 failed to live up to expectation and truly build on the groundwork laid by the HTC One M8.
The phone’s troubles were further compounded by a return to form by bitter rival, Samsung, with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and innovative Galaxy S6 Edge. All three handsets were unveiled on the same day during MWC.
