Google Nexus 5 Delays: Delivery wait extended to 3 weeks

Google Nexus 5 delays are increasing, with the recently unveiled Android 4.4 KitKat powered handset now facing five week shipping waits in the UK.

With the Google Nexus 5 having been made available to consumers a week ago, the Halloween launched handset has proven highly popular with consumers, with certain iterations of the phone now facing “4-5 week” delays.

Although the 16GB version of the phone in white will ship to consumers tomorrow, November 8, according to the Google Play Store listing, orders of the same 16GB handset just in black will now not ship to customers until just before the Christmas period.

For wannabe owners of the 32GB black version of the phone, however, Google Nexus 5 delays are considerably worse with the handset already listed as "out of stock."

With a high-end array of specs partnered with a wallet-friendly price tag, the Google Nexus 5, like the Google Nexus 4 before it, has grabbed consumers’ attentions. Available in both 16GB and 32GB storage capacities, the two versions of the phone are priced at just £299 and £339 respectively.

With a 2.26GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor running the show, the Google Nexus 5 specs sheet is further enhanced by 2GB of RAM and the new Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

Packing an 8-megapixel, optical image stabilisation hosting rear-mounted camera with a secondary, 1.3-megapixel snapper up front, the Google Nexus 5 features list also includes NFC and 4G connectivity options as well as a 2300mAh Lithium-Polymer battery and wireless charging capabilities.

With Google Nexus 5 stock shortages having already grabbed headlines, versions of the phone sold out in the US within just an hour of launch.

Although the Google Play store is short on Google Nexus 5 stocks, the handset is also available through a range of third-party retailers and networks in the UK, including Carphone Warehouse, Three and O2.

I received an email this morning stating that my black 32GB Nexus 5 had shipped. Can't track the delivery yet, but I'll confirm it when I know for sure.

I was lucky, 32GB black was supposed to ship Nov 4th, yet it was dispatched yesterday from the Netherlands and is already on its way through Germany.

For everyone else's hope google learned from their mistakes with the 4...
I'm already seeing sharks charging hefty sums on ebay. I hope they spend all that profit at the hospital.

My 32GB White was dispatched yesterday as well, so hopefully will get mine on Monday/Tuesday :-)

I hope all the sharks on eBay get stuck with them.

This is really unforgivable. After the debacle with the Nexus 4, Google once again risk dropping the ball partnering with LG. Do these companies not learn by their mistakes? Are we to see the same stock and shipping fiasco that happened previously? If so it would beggar belief.
I really hope not as the Nexus 5 has real potential to be a big seller

I think stock is fine. I ordered mine on 31st Oct and it was delivered on 4th Nov. But I think the stock software is not good - it suggests a much later delivery date that the reality (was same with my Nexus 4 delivery). What is unforgivable is the total lack of accessories - I am stupid enough to pay for the Google Play full case...but is it "coming soon". Crazy that cases are not in stock when the phone ships!

The accessories (or lack of) was the same with the Nexus 4, I finally gave up after weeks of watching for them to appear on the Play Store and purchased a 3rd party case from Amazon. Glad I did, months later I saw an offical case in PC World, stupid price, really shocking quality. It seems Google hasn't learned this time around either.

I received my Nexus 5 on Monday this week (4th Nov) having ordered it on the 31st October - this was a full 4 days earlier than Google Play stated! The phone is terrific - a clear step up from the Nexus 4 - with one big exception (and there's a huge firestorm about this building up on the Google support forums) - Exchange e-mail sync functionality in the brand new stock mail client simply doesn't work. In fact, it's worse than 'doesn't work' - the bug puts the mail client into an infinite loop which drains the phone's battery in 2-3 hours! Only current solution on offer is to download an alternative mail client (e.g. Touchdown), but since these in the main have shockingly poor user interfaces, this isn't a popular option. The prevalent mood online would seem to be, "great phone but unusable in a corporate or BYOD environment until the mail client is fixed". Google/LG had better pull their collective fingers out, or get ready for a lot of returned units.
