The good news for consumers is that wheeling-dealing Elon will fit the new solar roof for less than it’ll cost for a regular old house-covering affair.

This includes the manufacturing and installation costs, according to Musk who claimed “electricity is just a bonus.”
According to a Bloomberg report, Music said: “So the basic proposition will be: Would you like a roof that looks better than a normal roof, lasts twice as long, costs less and—by the way—generates electricity?
“Why would you get anything else?”
It’s anticipated that much of the savings will be through the shipping of the tempered glass solar panels.
They’re still really expensive, but will be lighter and more resistant to damage than the traditional slates.
So, when Musk said it’s going to be cheaper, he’s comparing it to the most expensive terra cotta roofing materials on the planet.
In other words, it’s going to be cheaper in the way that a Tesla Model S is cheaper than a Ferrari.
The entrepreneur believes the electricity savings could surpass $100,000 on large houses over time.
