Doro confirms plans to launch own-brand tablet

Doro will launch its first tablet within a matter of months, the company has exclusively revealed to TrustedReviews.

With the senior handset specialist having branched out into the accessible smartphone space during the past 12 months, it is now looking to bring larger form factors to the over-65s market.

We have tablets planned for 2015,” Doro’s UK Managing Director, Chris Millington told TrustedReviews recently.

So, when can we expect the first Doro-branded tablet to hit the market? Well, according to the company’s UK head, you should mark the year’s midway point into your diary.

“It will be a little bit after Mobile World Congress,” he said.

“Our intention is to bring something out before the end of Q2.”

Although the company intends to bring its first tablet device to market before the summer, Millington suggested that it could have been with us even sooner.

We paused our tablet plans because another company wanted to get involved,” he said.

“We put it on ice for a little while to explore the conversation with this very big global organisation.

“We thought it was worthwhile pausing and we are just waiting for a couple of things to come out from that proposition.”

Although a final decision on the prospective partnership has yet to be made, he added: “It doesn’t delay our plans anymore.

“We know the software that we want and we know the process we want to follow, it just which direction we take depends on whether we want a branded or a dual-branded product.”

It is expected that the Doro tablet will echo the interface of devices such as the Doro Liberto 810, a touchscreen smartphone device with a seniors-friendly UI and a raft of accessibility features.

Although the company has yet to launch any own-brand tablet devices, a Doro Experience launcher available for download on existing Android tablets.
