Apple reveals strong brand commitment to CarPlay

Apple has revealed that all major car brands have committed to Apple CarPlay.

CarPlay was announced back in March 2014 and in a year it looks like car manufacturers have show some serious interest in the in-car technology.

“Every major car brand has committed to CarPlay and there will be more than 40 new models of car shipping before the end of the year,” explained Tim Cook, Apple CEO during the Apple Watch event.

Original auto manufacturer partners including BMW, Ford, General Motors,
Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubushi, Nissan, Peugeot
Citroen, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota.

But it sounds like that list has expanded dramatically since the original announcement.

Unfortunately, Cook wouldn’t go into details about what kind of new vehicles would start arriving before the end of the year, but hopefully CarPlay will appear in cars across all price brackets.

“CarPlay has been designed from the ground up to provide drivers with an incredible experience using their iPhone in the car,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s VP of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing when announcing CarPlay. “iPhone users always want their content at their fingertips and CarPlay lets driver use their iPhone in the car with minimised distraction.”

It uses an eyes-free experience for controlling your phone and its features using voice commands. Siri can read out your messages, give you turn by turn directions, make calls or listen to voicemails for example, without your hands leaving the steering wheel.
