Apple has launched a new repair programme that addresses a key fault with older MacBook Pro laptops.
The company has determined that a “small percentage” of MacBook Pro laptops sold between February 2011 and December 2013 are exhibiting issues.
Some have distorted or scrambled video, others no video at all, while still others are experiencing unexpected system restarts.
Under the new programme, eligible MacBook Pros can be taken for repair for free at an Apple store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider.
The offer can be claimed in the US and Canada from February 20, and elsewhere as of February 27.
Specific MacBook models affected include 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models manufactured in 2011, and 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina models manufactured from Mid 2012 to Early 2013.

If you have one of these models, and you’re experiencing one of the issues mentioned above, you can use Apple’s Check your Coverage tool to confirm that this extended coverage applies.
Apple also says that it’s possible to get your MacBook checked for eligibility by an Apple technician, either by taking it into an Apple retail store or using Apple’s mail-in service.
You should also note that if your MacBook Pro has other, unrelated damage – such as a cracked screen – Apple will repair this too and charge you for the extra work.
