More details of Intel's upcoming Atom processors have been leaked according to Fudzilla, near-enough confirming the rumoured upcoming (and much-awaited) dual-core Atom processor. If the leaked information is legitimate then Q3 will see dual-core Atom CPUs capable of processing two threads per core, which in turn should lead to some powerful, yet low-power devices emerging.

Dubbed Atom 330 the top clock speed will be, as with the single core CPU, 1.6GHz and as mentioned already, each core will be able to run two threads, harking back to the days of HyperThreading - although that nomenclature is unlikely to be re-used. These chips will sport 1MB L2 caches and 64-bit support is also boasted, keeping the overall specs not-too far behind Core 2-derived alternatives.

Where Atom trumps the competition is power draw. A 1.6GHz dual-core quad-thread Atom will have an 8W TDP. While this will probably make the CPUs too power hungry for mobile devices, it should be perfect for the numerous Eee PC-a-likes scheduled to be released in the near future. Moreover, with the Asus Eee Box (or is it eBox/EBox?) slated for a Q3 launch, could it be the first to benefit from this dual-core Atom?
