Pentax X70 Digital Camera - Test Shots - Exposure Evaluation

By Cliff Smith

Our Score:

Here are some general test shots to help evaluate the camera's overall image quality, including dynamic range, colour rendition and the zoom range of the lens. Some pictures may be clicked to download the full size original image.

The X70's 26mm wide angle is great for cramming in lots of scenery.

The telephoto end is equivalent to a massive 624mm.

The exposure system seldom burns out highlights, but the shadows lack detail. Compare this shot with the Ricoh CX1 that I reviewed last week.

Colour rendition is well balanced and natural.

The huge telephoto lens is surprisingly usable even hand-held. This was shot at 1/100th of a second.

The X70 is a good general purpose camera, but not without its flaws.

Please help me decide, I need before/after indoor room pictures for home staging, and all purpose for pleasure landscape, zoom, panorama and/or wide angle, burst are my features wanted. Decide between Pentax Optio P70, Pentax X70, Nikon NL100 or Canon IXUS110IS....havent used a camera in a long time. stabilization and indoor are concerns and for $100-$150 difference, I'd rather pay more for what I need rather than wishing Ii had bought something else later. Need soon. do I need anitreflective or glare coating? Which would be best/easiest but something to learn/grow with.

I don't understand this review.

Either the camera produces good photos or the "noise" spoils them.

Which is it?
