Samsung UE48JU7000T – 3D Picture Quality
The UE48JU7000T is an excellent 3D performer, as its outstanding contrast and 4K UHD resolution (since it uses an active 3D system, it has to upscale 3D Blu-rays to UHD) combine to create beautifully dense and spacious but always natural-looking 3D worlds.
The screen isn’t as big as we’d like for a truly immersive 3D experience and we did occasionally get distracted by some reasonably low-level crosstalk ghosting noise, but overall the UE48JU7000T does 3D well enough to make us feel at least a flutter of sadness at the way 3D appears to be sidelined by the upcoming UHD Blu-ray format.

Samsung UE48JU7000T – Sound quality
First impressions of the UE48JU7000T’s audio are mostly positive. Voices sound impressively clear during all but the most raucous of moments, while also generally feeling as if they’re a natural part of their audio surroundings rather than sounding like some artificial super-imposition. Detail levels are good too, enabling you to hear subtle mix information like seagull cries and ocean washes not generally audible through built-in TV speakers.
The soundstage can become a bit harsh under duress, though, especially as there isn’t much bass available to provide a foundation for the trebles to bounce off.
Other Things To Consider
We’ve got good news for gamers, as while using the Game preset (inexplicably tucked away in the General submenu of the System menu) the UE48JU7000T suffers with just 22ms of input lag on average.
This is an impressively low figure by TV standards – especially by UHD TV standards – and should have minimal impact on your gaming abilities. So if you perform badly it’s much more likely to be your fault than that of the UE48JU7000T.
It’s also worth adding here that the new Tizen operating system has been joined by a new smart remote control design that’s supplied free with all JU7000T TVs. As with the Tizen interface, this new remote is a great improvement over anything Samsung has delivered before, ditching the fiddly old track pad and providing a more sensible degree of separation between the different ‘point and click’ and standard navigation button options.
Should I buy a Samsung UE48JU7000T?
You’d be crazy not to at least think about the UE48JU7000T – especially at the time of writing, when rival brands have yet to deliver any new 2015 models to potentially give this Samsung a run for its money. Its picture quality is excellent and its smart features are comprehensive, making it look like very respectable value for a 4K UHD TV.
The only cautionary note we’d add is that as ever with 4K UHD TVs, if you can manage to step up to a bigger screen size we’d strongly recommend that you do.

Verdict
Judging by the level of specification and performance offered by the UE48JU7000T for what is, all things considered, a very affordable price, 2015 is looking set to be a great year to be a 4K UHD fan.
