Tumblr adds iPhone 6S Live Photos support to app
Blogging platform Tumblr has become one of the first major companies to add Live Photos support to its app.
We’re two and a half months on from the launch of the iPhone 6S, and support for 3D Touch from app developers is slowly taking hold. However, few have supported Apple’s Live Photos features.
This curious feature automatically captures three seconds of footage of your subject every time you raise your iPhone 6S (or iPhone 6S Plus) to take a normal snap. So far this feature has sat relatively isolated inside your iPhone 6S.
With iOS 9.1, Apple enabled third party developers to add Live Photo support to their apps. Now, as 9to5Mac notes, Tumblr has shown the way by adding Live Photo support to its own iOS app.
Users of the Tumblr iOS app can now add their Live Photos to their posts, which will then be identified by a little icon. When iPhone 6S users come across such a Live Photo icon, then can initiate a 3D Touch to set it running.

If you have an older iPhone, you can also view these Live Photos through a long press.
Android and web users, however, will merely see a still image when viewing one of the Live Photo uploads.
Besides Live Photo support, the new Tumblr app adds the ability to initiate searches with a 3D Touch input on the home screen icon.
