The Samsung Galaxy S8’s screen might surprise you
As the year draws to a close, excitement for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 is hitting fever pitch, with the eagerly awaited handset now a mere matter of months away.
According to recent reports, the Samsung Galaxy S7 follow-on will play host to everything from a revamped camera and all the usual power boosts, as well as an innovative new, screen-heavy design.
It’s even been suggested that Samsung could do away with a traditional flat screen design completely, instead offering two sizes of device, each with a dual edge encompassing curved panel.
While this might get you all giddy with excitement, industry analysts have now claimed this might be jumping the gun slightly. Boo.

According to Choo Dae-young, the lead electronics analyst at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics & Trade, the consumer appetite for curved screen devices just isn’t there to make this a likely move.
“There appears to be no high demand for dual-edge screens because some still find them inconvenient because they mistakenly touch the sides of the smartphones,” he said in a note to investors.
“The utility of a bezel-less display does not seem that much higher for small, portable smartphones compared to televisions.”
Peter Lee, and analyst with NH Investment & Securities, added: “Samsung appears to be pushing dual-edge screens to distinguish its design rather than from an efficiency perspective. In order to boost efficiency, Samsung needs to unveil foldable devices, which can be used as both smartphones and tablets.”
In recent years, Samsung has offered both flat and curved screen variants of its flagship phones, although it’s been the ‘Edge’ devices which have grabbed the headlines.
Expected to debut at MWC 2017, expect to see your first official glimpse of the Galaxy S8 in the final couple of days of February.
