The first Project Tango phone will finally go on sale next month

Google has confirmed the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, the first consumer smartphone to utilise Google’s Project Tango 3D mapping technology, will go on sale next month.
Clay Bavor, the head of AR at Google, confirmed to CNET it’ll be available in November for $499 in the United States (around £391).

Users will be able to enjoy a raft of Augmented Reality games and experiences such as a Dominos game that can be set up in AR using the layout of the real room.
During the demo, hardware store Lowes demonstrated an app that would enable users to place items of furniture in their home and discover whether they would fit without needing a tape measure.
The flagship worthy handset, which was originally scheduled to go on sale in September, has a 6.4-inch QHD display with 454ppi.
Phab2 Pro also has a fingerprint sensor, a one-handed usage mode and a rather large 4050mAh battery.
Of course, Google smartphone fans now face a choice between the VR-ready Pixel phones and the AR Tango phone. Will they one day exist in a single device?
“You can imagine in the future you won’t have to make a choice, but that’s a bit further out,” Bavor told CNET.
No news yet on whether it will arrive in the UK.
