Sony’s £130 light bulb doubles as a Bluetooth speaker
Forget the Philips Hue range, Sony has debuted its own smart light bulb and this one doubles as a Bluetooth speaker.
Having originally been showcased at IFA 2014 last September as part of the company’s Life Space UX project, the Sony Light Bulb Speaker has now been dated and priced for launch in the company’s native Japan.
A UK release has yet to be confirmed, but the bulb will hit the oriental nation on May 23 alongside a 23,880 Yen (£127) asking price.

What’s more, thanks to the device’s inbuilt speaker, you can remotely fling tunes its way, using the app to cranking up the volume.
Boasting a 40mm driver inside an uncovered shell – so audio clarity isn’t compromised – Sony’s LED bulb is capable of pumping out 2W audio.

Unlike some of its smart bulb rivals, the Sony Light Bulb Speaker can’t cycle through a colour spectrum, instead offering simple, unadulterated white light.
The bulb features a traditional screw fixture and so should be compatible with all manner of light fittings.
