Sony PlayStation VR tipped to launch in the autumn

Sony’s virtual-reality headset has just been given a possible release date.
We know that the Oculus Rift is coming next month, and the HTC Vive will follow in April. Now it looks like the Sony PlayStation VR could touch down in the autumn.
The info comes courtesy of Paul Raines, CEO of US retailer GameStop. During an interview on Fox News about his firm’s financial projections, he mentioned VR, and accidentally let slip the release date of the PlayStation VR.
“We’ll launch the Sony product this fall,” he said, “and we’re in discussions with the other two players [Oculus and HTC].”

Being the CEO of one of the biggest games retailers in the US – and, indeed, the world – would suggest Raines knows what he’s talking about. Sony is yet to announce a launch date for the PlayStation VR. We’ve reached out for comment and will update this story if we hear back.
Update: It’s “no comment” from Sony, we’re afraid. A spokesperson told us: “The launch date for PlayStation VR will be announced in due course. We have no further comment at this time.”
