Shenmue 3 wants even more of your money with new Kickstarter campaign

There’s a brand new Shenmue 3 Kickstarter campaign, with the game apparently needing more of your money.

Developer Ys Net has embarked on yet another Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue 3, because it needs more of your hard-earned dosh.

The game was announced at E3 2015 during Sony’s press conference along with a Kickstarter to get the development ball rolling.

But now Ys Net has announced what it is calling a “Slacker Backer” period, which is designed to encourage anyone who didn’t pledge the first time around to chuck their money into the pot.

“There are so many people [who] told us that they could not pledge on Kickstarter, or could not make the deadline, and have asked for a PayPal page for another opportunity to contribute to Shenmue 3,” explained the studio.

“The Slacker Backer period will continue through December 31st. While the full game will be completed as promised with the use of funding collected on Kickstarter, any additional funding collected here will go towards reaching the Stretch Goals to make the game even bigger and better.”

“The three month window was set to allow a long enough time for everyone who wants to support Shenmue 3 to do so, but short enough to keep the release date on track. The PayPal page will feature a selection of rewards from the Kickstarter campaign including the Trial Version and the Collector’s Edition.”

Shenmue 3’s original Kickstarter raised $6,333,295, making it the highest ever funded videogame. It is also the third highest funded “games project” behind card game Exploding Kitten ($8,782,571) and the Ouya Android console ($8,596,474).

Ys Net’s game was also the sixth highest Kickstarter of all time.

Of course, Shenmue broke a few other Kickstarter records too, including being the fastest game to reach the $1 million mark (taking only one hour and 42 minutes) and the fastest to hit $2 million, which it achieved in just over nine hours.
