Samsung SmartThings Hub available September

Samsung has revealed that the first SmartThings Hub following its acquisition of the smart-home tech company will hit shops next month.

The Korean electronics giant acquired SmartThings around this time last year, but the first new hardware under this new joint venture hasn’t been forthcoming.

Initially set for an April launch, Samsung announced in March that the second-generation SmartThings gear had been delayed, likely until Q3.

It seems to have been on the money here, at least. Over on the SmartThings blog, the team has announced that “the Samsung SmartThings Hub will be available to purchase in early September.”

The company also noted that you can pre-order the new Hub from today. This can be done via Amazon, Samsung, or the SmartThings website.

Of course, when we say “you”, we actually mean only our US-based readers. There’s no sign of a UK or European retail option as yet. Boo.

For those who can buy it, the new Samsung SmartThings Hub will set you back $99. One of the main improvements over the first-generation Hub is improved local processing power, so you’ll still be able to manage your smart-home devices even if your internet connection is down.

Besides the Hub, there will be a new line of SmartThings products released over the coming weeks, as well as an “enhanced mobile app experience”.
