Samsung will add a pressure-sensitive display to the Galaxy S7, a new report claims.
Many people could have predicted this headline the second they saw what Apple had cooked up this past September. It seems Samsung is preparing to emulate the iPhone 6S‘s most impressive new feature, 3D Touch.
That’s the case according to a new Wall Street Journal report, at least, which cites the usual ‘people familiar with the matter’.
The publication claims that a pressure-sensitive screen is one of a handful of new features in a device that won’t be that far removed from the Samsung Galaxy S6, particularly in terms of design. Like this year’s model, there’ll be an alternative luxury version with a curved edge.
In addition to that pressure-sensitive display, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge will reportedly have a USB Type-C port, which will provide a full day’s charge in just 30 minutes. It’s also claimed that the new flagships could possibly feature retina-scanning technology – at least in some versions of the handset.
Recent reports have claimed that the LG G5 will feature a similar biometric feature, so it’s perhaps no surprise that the company’s biggest rival is also looking into the technology (no pun intended).
The report also claims that the Galaxy S7 will come with a microSD slot, which will address one of the big criticisms of the Galaxy S6 (in some quarters, at least).

As you might expect, there are also claims of an improved camera sensor that’s better in low-light conditions. Interestingly, sources claims that this camera will sit flush with the back of the Galaxy S7 rather than bulging out like on the Galaxy S6.
One final prediction is that the Galaxy S7 will make its debut at MWC in late February, with a faster-than-normal trip to retail in mid-March.
