Samsung Galaxy S7 could mimic iPhone 6S with force-touch display
The iPhone 6S is a unique proposition thanks to its pressure sensitive 3D Touch display, but it seems Samsung is hot on Apple’s tail.
A new report from China suggests Samsung is eyeing up pressure sensitive screens for next year’s Galaxy S7 smartphone.
According to the claims, Samsung is hoping to make use of Synaptics’ new ClearForce technology, which functions in largely the same way as Apple’s 3D Touch.
The report comes courtesy of popular leak account I Ice Universe on Chinese social media site Weibo. We’ve pushed an excerpt from the post through Google Translation, so please excuse the shoddy English:
“Samsung announced the core partners Synaptics ClearForce technology, expected to be used Galaxy S7, provide more convenient operation, function rich, than Apple 3D-Touch, thanks to ISOCELL, details are as follows.”
Synaptics unveiled its ClearForce technology earlier this month, on October 6, confirming that broad sampling to manufacturers had already begun.
According to the company,
At the time, Kevin Barber, Synaptics Senior VP of the company’s Smart Display Division, said:
“This exciting next step in human interface for smartphones will soon become the norm and highlights Synaptics’ leadership in force.”
Barber continued: “Early adopters of ClearForce include industry leading OEMs and LCMs seeking advanced technology that drives an enhanced and more productive user experience.”
It now seems apparent that Samsung may have been one of those “industry leading OEMs” that Barber was referencing at the start of the month.
