A report emanating from Japan has claimed that Nintendo plans to end production of its Wii U console at the end of 2016, as it gears up for the launch of the NX.
Nikkei sources (translated by Sekan Toto) said the firm has already wound up making some accessories, with the days of Wii U consoles coming off the production line now numbered.

The report would suggest that Nintendo is intent on clearing its existing Wii U stocks before pushing on with its next-generation console.
As for the NX, Nintendo has promised to reveal more information at some point in 2016, but it’s unclear whether or not that announcement will come at the rapidly approaching E3 2016 expo.

Whether Nintendo speaks up sooner or later, the Japanese giant has offered no indication as to whether the console will be available in 2016. Many observers expect it to be 2017 before it arrives on the shelves.
Given the disappointing sales for the Wii successor, it wouldn’t be surprising if the firm had plenty of Wii U’s gathering dust. Regardless, prepare yourselves for some bargain-basement Wii U deals folks.
