Apple’s recently launched News app will soon offer access to paywalled content, according to a new report.
Reuters sources say Apple is currently working on a way to integrate subscriptions into the app, which arrived in iOS 9 in September and became available in the UK shortly thereafter.
The sources don’t know the route Apple will take, but it’s possible it will enable users to log into various accounts to access content they’re already paying for.
It’s also possible Apple News will offer subscriptions directly from Apple News. In that instance it’s likely Apple would seek a cut of the action from publishers, just as it takes from iTunes purchases of digital newspapers and magazines.
Apple integrating subscriptions gives the firm a better chance of becoming the only app iPhone and iPad users need to access all of their favourite sources.

At last count Apple had 40 million users accessing content from more than 100 publishers. However, in January the company discovered it may have more users than initially thought due to a reporting glitch.
The firm is going up against Facebook’s instant articles, which seeks to offer full access to content without leaving Facebook.
