Report: 256GB iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus incoming

As the iPhone 7 launch nears, the rumours and reports are starting to flood in.

Today’s ‘leak’ comes via research firm TrendForce, which claims that Apple has “settled on most of the specs for the next iPhone,” one of which is a 256GB storage option.

What’s more, the high-capacity option is reported as being available on both the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

That would put the two handsets in line with the storage on top-end iPad Pro models.

TrendForce’s report also contains details that have already been reported, such as an expected 3GB of RAM, as opposed to the 2GB currently found in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, and the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus itself.

The report also suggests that Apple is yet to settle on the other storage options, and may be considering replacing the 64GB storage option with 128GB.

According to TrendForce, the decision to offer a more capacious iPhone model has been driven by a drop in the price of NAND flash since 2015.

The news follows IHS analyst Kevin Wang’s post on Sina Weibo, in which he claims that Apple plans to ditch the 16GB entry-level iPhone option in favour of a new 32GB model.

Aside from the storage news, the report also backs up previous rumours that the iPhone 7 Plus will gain a dual-lens camera.

And it seems that Apple will also be sticking with LCD tech for the new phone’s screens, if TrendForce are to be believed, with the firm set to make the switch to AMOLED with the iPhone 8.
