PlayStation Network and Xbox Live were rendered inaccessible to the thousands of gamers trying to access the services over the Christmas holidays, with brand new consoles and games affected by the attack.

Sony has apologised for the interruptions to PSN access by offering gamers a five day extension on their PlayStation Plus accounts – providing they had an active subscription or free trial on December 25.

Both compensatory gifts will be available at a later, but still unknown, date.
